Tears in the dishwater

My youngest son has been grounded today from using the computer. He got grounded for disobeying me. It was really a simple request. All I said was get off the computer, get your schoolwork started, and I will be right back. Simple, right? Wrong. I went to grab a cup of joe with a friend and when I came back, he was crying softly while doing the dishes. As you can imagine, I was really confused for a moment. Apparently, he decided not to get going on his schoolwork and to keep playing on the computer. So, Jackson grounded him. Well, Micah decided that maybe if he did something nice without being told, like doing the breakfast dishes, he could ease his punishment. Maybe, maybe not. That's how we look at God too sometimes. Maybe if we do something nice for Him, He will give us that new car, or maybe even the winning lottery ticket? :)

It's about obedience really. I asked for something simple. Just obey. Isn't that what God asks of us,too? I told Micah I would rather have a son that I know I could trust to obey me than a spotless house any day. I don't care if my sink is piled high with dirty dishes, as long as my children obey me. God says just to trust and obey Him. I am working on obedience, too. :)
