First of all, I don't know how many of you know of my obsession I have. I love being on the trail. I love the woods. Any trail will do, but there is something about the Appalachian Trail that is downright addicting. Monday morning I will begin to hike along the Appalachian Trail with Alex and Matthew. We will start at Clingmans Dome ( Great Smoky Mountains National Park,Tennessee side)around 8a.m. and hike to Fontana Dam (North Carolina). The Appalachian Trail is roughly 2,180 miles in length stretching from Springer Mountain, Georgia, all the way to Katahdin, Maine. It goes through 14 states with about 70 miles of it running through the Smoky Mountains. One of these days I will hike it all. I will be one of the section-hikers. Completing one section of trail at a time. I have been on parts of the trail in New Hampshire, Virginia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Tennessee.I know it doesn't seem like much of a hike, but it is a start and it is a great accomplishment for me.
Here's the fun part. What started as a 3 day-30 mile hike is now a 2 day-30 mile hike. That's right. 30 miles in 2 days.(Matthew was only able to get 2 days off work instead of 3). I hope this old body of mine can keep up with the 21 year olds. I will be keeping a journal, trying to get every bit of information I can on the trail conditions as we hike along. And then I will write it all here for you to enjoy!
